Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as weapons control, the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently with President Reagan to summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
